I had been living with the most wonderful man. He was a widower with four children living in different parts of the country. I threw a big 50th birthday party for him and all his children flew in to help him celebrate. It was a wonderful time and he had the time of his life.
As we were getting into bed that night, he complained of eating and drinking too much. I gave him an Alka Seltzer. We kissed goodnight and snuggled into our familiar spooning position. Before we fell asleep, he asked me to marry him. The next morning when I tried to wake him, he didn't move. He had died in his sleep. I felt the life go out of me as well.
