Summer job

Dad worked at the local paper mill and got me a summer job, so I could earn money for college. I would work the night shift first, and stumbled out of bed at 11:00 p.m. to get ready. He greeted me at the factory door, and walked me to my supervisor, introducing me to some of his buddies on the way there. The supervisor led me to a darkened basement where oil dripped from the machinery and pooled on the cement floor under massive spooling rolls of paper. Be careful cleaning these up, he shouted handing me a hose, if you get your hair caught between those rolls, you'll be crushed. He grinned, toothless and dirty, and left me alone in the basement to make my college money.
