Working for the first time

With basically nothing on my resume, I was sure nobody would hire me, but Abby managed to network well enough to get a local Christian bookstore owner to give me a job. You could still see scars on my elbow from shooting up, but other than that I was cleaned up pretty good. Richard was the name of my new boss. My first day on the job, he showed me around and told me that, when the place closed in the evening, he held prayer groups and reading groups there. Then he taught me how to open the new shipments, log everything, and put it properly on the shelf. As I scanned books and then brought the boxes out of the floor to shelf them, I felt a sense of pride unlike anything I had felt before. This was going to be good for me.
