It had come to be our ritual that we took the kids out together to go house to house and trick or treat on Halloween. Dusk had just come over the neighborhood as we made our way out and the kids ran excitedly before us. Things had been good lately and I reached for his hand, but something seemed different. I brushed it off as he smiled back at me and we took off after the kids for a night together. The smell of burning leaves was thick in the air as the light of the candles in pumpkins lit our path along the way. For that moment, we seemed like a family again, doing all the things that a family should do and sharing these special and simple times together.
