Todd was an abusive prick

I had no way of knowing what a jerk Todd could be. For the first year he did a real good job of keeping his true self secret. But then, slowly, he started treating me like dirt. At first it was little things, like putting me down for making mistakes, but before long he started to hit me when he got real angry. I took it at first, thinking he was under pressure from work and he'd get over it soon, but my friends all told me it wouldn't get better ever, so one day while he was gone, they came over and helped me pack up my things. Some of it I just left, because I didn't care enough to risk still being there when he came home. Then I just went, and never saw him again.
