The First Film That Matters

My life was full with school time and my brother's tales of courageous adventures of his gang, and I had no need of movies to fill my imagination. That is, until then. It happened so fast. I came home from school one day, and found my mother crying surrounded by many aunties from the neighbor. She said, "Come here", I did, and she grabbed me into her arms and told me my brother was not with us anymore. I could not comprehend.

At that moment, Dad came home and all the aunties left. They went into their bedroom quietly and came out dressed up in their best outfits. My mother said they had to go to a hospital, and I had to stay home alone, and that she knew I should be able to take care of the house while they were away because now I was the only man in the family left.

Dad glanced at her fiercely when she said that. I went into the living room and turned on T.V. I sat through the whole length of "Bonny & Clyde" with a concentration I hadn't possessed before and went into that world.

At the end of the film when Bonny & Clyde died, I decided I'd change the ending. I'd make them escape miraculously, and live happily with unending adventures ever after.
