Starving children in Europe

It was during World War II. I was a skinny kid with not much of an appetitive for anything that wasn't sweet. At every meal, as I picked at my food, I was always told to eat everything on my plate because there were children starving in Europe. I never knew what the starving children in Europe had to do with me. But it got me to wondering whether we might have relatives back there, and if one was a little girl like me. I also wondered this every time I saw a newsreel or movie about World War II.
