Prom Queen

I nervously held onto my boyfriend's arm as our names were called. We strolled out onto the stage listening to the roar of cheers. I walked slowly, afraid I might trip over my puffy dress as we descended the stairs. When we got to our spot with the rest of the court, I looked around nervously while cameras flashed in our faces. Our names were called again, and crowns placed upon our heads. We hugged and smiled for more pictures, then proceeded to the center of the gym floor for our first dance. Then it was over, after months of planning and preparation, and my boyfriend left me behind to go drinking with his friends.
