My girlfriend says she is pregnant

I was going to marry her eventually, but I wasn't prepared when she told me she was with child. At the time I was just cutting cane, and hardly had the money to pay meself, much less her and a pickney. She came to me house to tell me this. I told her the truth, that I was planning to go to America in a couple months' time. She started up crying, saying I was going to leave her as she was, but I told her to get on and stop she crying, and how was I to know that damn thing was even mine? She called me all sort of names and ran crying from me yard, and that was the last thing I ever heard from her.
