For a tomboy like me, trying to get work at a young age is hard, because all anyone wants to hire girls for is babysitting. But my mom told a friend of hers how good I was at skiing, and I was surprised when her friend asked me to teach her. She offered to pay me thirty dollars for the day, which was actually really good money. So we all went up one day and I taught her how to put her boots in the ski, how to stand up properly, and how to move along by just using her poles. At the moment it didn't seem like a big deal, but while we drove home that night I started thinking about how much fun it was and how proud I was for having been paid to do something I love.
