I remember the 50's clearly. It wasn't really about standing up to anyone, it was more about just doing whatever you wanted, in protest of the unfair laws and rules. I wasn't nearly as much of a rebel as some of my younger friends, but I still had my days.
My favorite day was when my friends and I had decided to decorate an old oak in the park. We spent all day putting beads, stickers and little bits of paint all over that old tree. When we were done it looked like someone had turned it into a party tree.
