Missing Important Moments

I've done some pretty stupid and mean things under the influence. One of the worst, well okay, not the worst, but one of the most painful things was missing my daughter's ballet recital. She was five, and it was very important to her that I be there, but I just couldn't get out of bed because I had this huge hangover from the night before. She tried to be brave about it, and my wife tried to make her feel better but in the end, I know how she must have felt. Because I had felt it so many times with my own father.
