My father felt I was too immature to go to college right out of high school. He thought I just wanted to go there to have fun. And he was probably right. So instead, I went to a local secretarial school. That's where I met Janie. We lived near each other but had attended different high schools. She was the complete opposite of me. I was outgoing and a motor mouth while she was shy and quiet.
At first I didn't like her because she didn't seem like much fun. But we rode the same bus together. One day on the ride home, I was sitting next to her blabbering away when I noticed her smiling. I realized she enjoyed listening to me. I made her laugh. She accepted me just the way I was-even though we were different. That was the start of our lifelong friendship.
