We stood in front of the fountain, and I held the copper penny tight in my hand. My mom held onto the back of my shoulder as I shut my eyes tight, trying to think of the right thing. 'Make a wish sweetie,' she said. I thought for a minute and then tossed the penny into the water as it splashed beneath me. I wished in that moment to be just like her, to be a mommy and to be in power and to know how to do everything. I watched as the penny sunk quickly to the bottom of the fountain, knowing that I would make my wish come true some day.
