I started on nickel machines, but they weren't paying off at all. I moved up to quarters and had some luck. The swirling lights above the bank of slots highlighted the progressive sign that lured me to my machine. I plugged in a twenty, and to my dismay, watched it slip away within minutes. The next few twenties went fast, and in desperation, I moved over to a dollar machine. I had to make back what I'd lost before leaving. I left at 2:30 a.m. with a sick feeling in my stomach at the thought of my husband finding out his paycheck was gone.
