The manager called me into her office and offered me a seat on her famous red couch. I waited for her to offer me some training or a promotion, twirling my hair anxiously.
She started to explain the need for downsizing, and the fact that our department wasn't doing well. I stared at her in disbelief when she said I was being laid off.
Then as quickly as she had promoted me and moved me into an office, she was telling me I had thirty minutes to pack my things and leave quietly. When I didn't speak, she offered to have someone else pack my things for me. That's when I told her what I really thought of her, and stormed out of her office.
