Just a Puff

I stood outside the school with them. I felt like I needed to crouch down so nobody would see me, but they told me I was being paranoid. I stood there frantically, excitedly, waiting and hoping that we wouldn't get caught. They struck up the lighter and I watched the bright orange glow as they lit the cigarette. I watched as they puffed out their cheeks after taking a slow long drag of it. Then they passed it to me as my hands trembled in nervous excitement. I took it in my hand, held it up to my mouth, and instinctively breathed in. I coughed and all the smoke came flooding out. I knew I looked so cool with it though, so I ignored the bitter taste as they handed it to me again. I felt like such an adult with that cigarette in my hand.
