It Stays With You, Always

Needless to say, after my mother found out that my stepfather had been raping me, she divorced him quickly and we filed charges against him. He, I was surprised, did the honorable thing and pleaded no contest for a shorter jail time, which was ten years as opposed to the fifteen he would have gotten. My mom and I both started going to therapy and being open with each other at all times. Though it was a horrible thing that happened, something that will stick with me for my entire life, I got better over time and my mother and me grew closer. And for that, at least, I'm grateful.
