I tell my parents I'm gay

I was gay and enough had been written about me that I knew it would be no time before the Advocate would out me. So I decided to tell my family before that happened. My father was shell-shocked. My brothers were livid. They threatened never to let me alone with their kids again. Only my mother took it in stride-thanks to the support of my sister. But I was ostracized from my family and excluded from many family events. It broke my heart.
