Happy Birthday to Me

Birthdays were a big deal in our house. They started off with a serenade to wake up the birthday person the morning of their special day and continued on with all sorts of fun surprises. Thirteen was a big birthday for me and my parents were bound and determined to make it special. I came home from school to the intoxicating smell-was it really my favorite? Oh yes, my mom made me lasagna which caused me to salivate as soon as I picked up the scent. Then I found that they had picked up a mint chocolate chip ice cream cake for me which melted deliciously in my mouth as I chomped it down. We all sat around, laughing and eating-it was definitely my favorite birthday ever!
