Government

This isn't first government shutdown in history, and it probably won't be the last.

What really gets to me is that the American people really aren't educated on what their duty as voters really is.

Many people think that our job is finished as soon as we leave the voting booth, but that's not true.

What people need to understand, is that we are constituents of our representatives in Washington DC. We can call, email, and in some cases, even sit in on meetings and tell them what we would like them to do.

The truth is, we have more power over them than they have of us. If more Americans were willing to tell their representatives how we want them to handle our issues, we wouldn't have the problems that we have now. It would be majority rules, pure an simple.

You see, politicians rely on backers to fund their campaigns. Loosing backers, means loosing elections. Therefore... they will listen to us when we tell them what to do, because they don't want to risk loosing support.

For this reason, I urge all Americans to start petitions.

You can do this at places like
http://petitions.moveon.org/create_start.html?source=ads.ck.mop.gs.g04.a04

for free.

Then, once you have enough signatures, you can email them to your representatives.

or, make a phone call, and leave a message to your rep, explaining your stance on the issues at hand.

As I said before, if we all took it upon ourselves to tell our represenatives how we want them to handle out issues, it would come down to majority rule. ...Isn't that what democracy is all about?

It's time to speak up, before it's too late.
