First Job

A friend of my Papi's was in the construction business and needed some help for the summer. Papi told him we could use the money, and sent me to the site to learn my trade. I sweated in the sun all day carrying two by fours and poundin' nails, listening to the older guys tell stories about their weekend thrills. By lunchtime, I felt like a man, just one of the guys, chewing on the sandwhich in my dirty hands and letting' 'em make fun of me all they wanted. The foreman gave me a pat on the back at six and told me how impressed he was with me, and I practically skipped home that night.
