Its not like I was in love with the job at the lumber yard, but it was all I had at the moment. Plus, there weren't very many places I could go for work in that small town. There was the lumber yard, the dairy queen, or the horse ranch.
My boss was a short bald, hot temper man, with too much on his plate. I had always done everything he'd ever asked, and when he asked me to move a shipment of very important timber, I did it right away. It was extra heavy, and I wanted to move it fast. So fast, that I grabbed too much and ended up dropping it in a pile of mud. When he came out and saw what had happened, I didn't even have a chance to tell him I'd clean up before he yelled, "You're fired!"
