I could hear the little footsteps making their way to our bedroom. It felt like we had just gone to bed, but they were anxious. They jumped up onto the bed and pulled at my wife and I to get up and see what Santa had brought. We threw on our robes and made our way down the stairs, and then we all just stopped in our tracks. We all paused on the stairs to look down on the beauty, the tall tree shimmering in the darkness with bright silver ornaments. The pile of perfectly wrapped presents, neat with bows and shiny green and red wrapping paper, it was like a scene out of a family portrait. Then the moment was over as they squealed with excitement and bounded down the stairs to feverishly unwrap the goodies that Santa had brought their way.
