Best Shot

I knew that smell as I tried to head to my room in time. I couldn't make it this time as dad came sloppily up the stairs. I didn't say a word but he started yelling at me, mocking me, as I stood there alone in the dark hallway. He got closer and I felt overpowered with that familiar disgusting smell. I tried to walk away and he pulled me back, pulled his arm back and then it happened. Bam! He delivered a smack right to my face as my head drew back giving me whiplash. I started shaking and as my mom came up to grab him when she realized what had happened, I wet myself right there in that dark hallway as I shook in fear. It had all happened so fast and my face throbbed in pain.
