She was born at one a.m. on a Thursday. The call came in at 11:15, right after I'd gotten to work, so I had to sped to the hospital to meet her, hoping I'd be on time to comfort and coach her through this one. She was in pain, I mean really in pain, when I got there, and didn't seem too happy to see me.
I stood in the corner of the room and watched the doctors and nurses take over. They called me over, right before she was born, and handed me a squirming, blue-faced baby girl seconds later. I looked into her eyes and she stole my heart right then and there.
