Adopting a special needs dog

I saw a picture of a dog on the website and went to the animal rescue facility to see him. But the dog didn't pay much attention to me. Then a shy little dog walked up and sat down at my feet. He was the sweetest, gentlest dog and seemed a little frightened.

It was love at first sight. I learned that he had been found wandering the streets in a bad area of town. He had a heart murmur, skin condition that would require ongoing care and chronic dry eyes that would eventually make him blind. I scooped him up and took him home. He not only needed me, but he also brought me great pleasure and taught me to be more understanding. What a wonderful companion he turned out to be.
